WF.B WAHLFACH earth construction workshop
This elective takes place in the form of an intensive workshop during the white week from 30th mai to the 02nd june 2023 on the production site of bc materials in Brussels.
The workshop introduces transformation processes of local raw materials, mainly focused on the use of unfired earth. The hands-on workshop format allows you to learn by doing, seeing and feeling.
The students will: discover a variety earth building techniques, engage in didactic materials exercises, create a variety of material samples, create large scale prototypes. We aim to create a wide skillset through our hands-on approach; understanding the act of building, intuitive handling and experimenting with geo-based and bio-based materials, exploring constructive systems through creation.

Die Workshop-Woche ist eine Einführung in die Verarbeitungsprozesse lokaler Rohstoffe, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf der Verwendung von ungebrannter Erde als Baumaterial liegt. Durch praktische Anwendung wird der Baustoff Lehm erkundet und verschiedene konstruktive Techniken erprobt.
Es werden verschiedene Lehmbautechniken anhand von Materialübungen erlernt, Materialproben hergestellt und großformatige Prototypen angefertigt. Ziel ist es, durch die praktische Herangehensweise ein breites Spektrum an Fähigkeiten zu vermitteln: ein Verständnis für den Akt des Bauens, intuitive Handhabung und Experimentieren mit geobasierten und biobasierten Materialien, das Erforschung konstruktiver Systeme durch Gestaltung.
